Movement has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. My preference from an early age continuing through college was ballet. Since Pilates is the workout choice for dancers, it is not surprising that it would appeal to me. Although only a few of my clients are dancers, Pilates brings a graceful awareness and alignment to the motions of everyone’s daily life.
I have been involved in the fitness industry since 1983 and have enjoyed teaching a variety of movement forms. During that time I have seen fitness trends come and go. However, it wasn’t until I was first introduced to Pilates that I knew I had found the movement form that I had been seeking. Pilates offers the greatest variety of movement, widest application (fitness, rehab, physical therapy, etc.), and is the most challenging mind-body exercise program I have taught. It felt wonderful on my body and was adaptable to all fitness levels, creating the potential to benefit others through the course of their lifetime. Symmetry Pilates Studio opened in 2001. Since its opening, I have trained with many gifted teachers, and ongoing education provides me with the most up to date information and variety of tools to support my clients needs. This understanding, when applied to studio workouts and daily activities, can lead to wonderful changes in body awareness, posture, and stamina.
Why seek out Pilates instruction? My clients offer me a variety of reasons. There are those who want to become more comfortable and aware of their bodies. Many desire the physical challenge of Pilates to maintain optimum fitness and good health. Others seek support around physical challenges to help them return more wholly to everyday life. One thing all my clients enjoy is the personal attention to their needs that I am able to give them during our sessions.
I started Symmetry Pilates Studio because I love helping others. If I can help you feel stronger, enhance your mind body connection, alleviate some of your discomforts, and elevate your spirits, then I am achieving my goals. With Symmetry I have created a safe and supportive space in which to work together.
Over the past 13 years I have attended many conventions, logged hundreds of workshop hours, participated in ongoing classes, and enjoyed private sessions. It is the following group of gifted people who have helped shape who I am as a Pilates practitioner. I wish to thank them for sharing their knowledge and passion, and inspiring me to think outside the box.
